The spell with the above limits though is arguably balanced. because 8 polymorphs for a 4th level slot is stupid. I'm not 100% sure this spell was playtested correctly, I think it must have been playtested with a DM who limits the spell. If the Pixie gets killed, or the druid fails a check after damage, then the pixie vanishes and the polymorph ends too. Concentration spells are limited by concentration for a reason. It's in a high level slot, if you limit it reasonably it won't break your game.Ĥ. why would it give it to you? (persuasion?) That Pixie might need it's polymorph later that day to defend itself. They're friendly and they obey you, but that doesn't mean they use up their limited resources to help you. They obey any verbal commands that you issue to them. The summoned creatures are friendly to you and your companions. maybe a Pixie with a bunch of animal bodyguards.Ģ. It doesn't say "select eight fey creatures" it says you summon forth eight, the DM can easily take over control of exactly what those creatures are and put in a mix. With animals it doesn't really matter, with fey creatures you could make a fight much harder if you've pissed them off by summoning them and they polymorph the caster into something thst can't issue verbal commands. I always tell my PC's that they're casting the spell this round and the creatures appear this round, but until your inititive next round they're just here. You probably interrupted a party or something.

Unless your party is fighting field-burning orcs or lumberjacks they're just as likely to turn one PC into a bear and another into a beaver to see if one eats the other before you give them a command. Normally I'd suggest sleep or colour spray, but stupid fey have immunities/resistances to it and you need to be right the first time.īesides, the pixies are intelligent, fun-loving creatures. End of pixies, end of polymorph, 8d6 damage which the DM could assign to the PC's either before or after the polymorph goes away, though I would let the PC's roll the DEX save of the form that takes the damage. I don't have a monster manual, but I believe that the bite also automatically grapples if it hits, with a DC 17 to break free. We now have a shitload of hp (136) and deal a shitload of damage (multiattack with 4d12 and 3d10). The pixies cast polymorph on our level 8 party and turn us all into tyrannosaurus rexes.
